PON optical network terminal
May 18, 2005 12:12 PM
Entrisphere (Booth #12030) recently announced the BLM T100 Single Family Unit Optical Network Terminal (ONT), the first in its new T-Series family of ONTs and Optical Network Units (ONUs). Designed to interoperate with Entrisphere’s BLM 1500 Broadband Loop Multiplexer or other standards-compliant Optical Line Terminals (OLTs), T-Series ONTs will provide solutions for single-family homes, apartments, small and medium-sized businesses, and fiber-to-the-curb PON applications.
The T100 serves single-family homes; delivering data service at up to 100 Mb/s, packet or POTS voice, switched digital video, IPTV and other services. It brings cost-effective fiber-based services to subscriber homes with ITU G.983 interoperability and best-in-class performance. Using an optional third wavelength, providers can also deliver up to 80 NTSC channels without a set-top box and to deliver up to 500 MPEG digital channels to subscribers with set-top boxes.
When the T100 is deployed with Entrisphere’s BLM 1500, providers can use existing OSSs to perform inventory, service activation and loop testing, and to deliver flow-through services from Class 5 switches. Other operational advantages of the T100 include 48 VDC powering that lowers installation costs through more flexible cabling options.
Implemented as an electronics cartridge that allows an ONT housing to be installed and fiber terminated without installing the electronics, the T100 can be installed only when the customer orders service to minimize up-front costs and improve return on investment.
