Amedia Networks (Booth #71049) is unveiling its QoStream AS5000 Aggregation Switch with VDSL line cards at Supercomm 2005. These 8-port line cards allow network operators to provide voice, data and video services over existing copper telephone wires, and allow for an efficient and economic evolution of their subscribers from fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) to fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) as demand dictates--without replacing other chaise, fiber or network management elements.

The QoStream AS5000 Aggregation Switch is a Layer 2, 5Gb/s by 5Gb/s Ethernet switch that can reside in a central office, head end, or on-premises within a multiple dwelling unit (MDU) or office complex. It can also be deployed as a node in the outside plant without any environmental conditioning. Each unit aggregates traffic from up to 48 gateways (each of which is managing from 1 Mb/s to 100 Mb/s of traffic) and interconnects to gigabit Ethernet ports (from 1 to 5) on an Ethernet core switch.

Each AS5000 can support both fiber and copper line cards simultaneously.

The AS5000 with VDSL capabilities is designed for incumbent service providers with copper-based loops that are seeking to offer triple-play services over a FTTN topology. In addition, carriers that require an economical solution for providing triple-play services with a capacity of up to 100 Mb/s in MDUs with copper in the risers will also find this product to be an ideal solution.
