Alcon Technologies (Booth #78025) has announced the FSXpert A/B optical protection switch. Used in fiber optic networks to provide optical path and transmitter redundancy and protection, this device automatically switches to an alternative optical path or transmitter in less than eight milliseconds when there is a failure on the primary path or transmitter. The switch is latching, thus retaining its state during a loss of power.

This innovative product is the only A/B protection switch on the market that includes remote access and the ability to measure and report the power level of the fiber optic signal. From a remote location, users can set four separate alarm thresholds, monitor optical levels and operate the switches for each fiber. The FSXpert A/B optical protection switch works with single mode and multimode optical signals.
