Ciena (Booth #22039) introduces the CN 4200 FlexSelect, a multiservice transport and aggregation platform that enables a flexible, cost-effective transition from TDM to packet networks with the flexibility of programmable line modules. The CN 4200 is powered by Ciena's FlexiPort technology that delivers "any service, anywhere, any time." Capable of supporting TDM, Ethernet, storage and video services on any port of any line card at any network location--using completely remote service provisioning and management-the CN 4200 addresses multiple applications for service providers, enterprise and government customers.

The CN 4200 eliminates the cost and complexity of deploying and sparing service-specific line cards, platforms or overlay networks. Each port on a Ciena FlexiPort line module can be remotely programmed on-demand as a transponder, muxponder, ADM or cross-connect for Sonet/SDH, ESCON, Fibre Channel, gigabit Ethernet, digital video and optical transport unit (OTU) services up to 10 Gb/s. Ciena's FlexiPort technology provides long-range investment protection by supporting current industry standards and new services and protocols as they come to market with simple downloadable upgrades.

The end result: the CN 4200 improves network flexibility and utilization, and drastically reduces costs through remote, automated provisioning and service management. Customers can migrate Sonet/SDH to Ethernet services remotely in a matter of moments, saving the time, expense and risk associated with the current process of ordering and commissioning equipment, and sending a service technician to install, test and activate a new circuit--a cycle that typically takes 45 to 90 days.
